Identifying the Cause of Your Jaw Pain

Posted .

Do you have jaw pain and are you’re having a hard time identifying the cause? If so, our dentist, Dr. Brandon Burger, and dental team are more than happy to help you determine the cause of your pain and eliminate it. Unfortunately, there are many things that can cause your jaw pain. To help you know what might be the cause of your pain, we are happy to list a couple of the most common causes, which are:

-TMD: This is also called temporomandibular disorders, and it can cause extreme discomfort in the jaw. Generally, the causes of TMD include chronic teeth grinding (which is also known as bruxism) or the dislocation of the temporomandibular joint (which is the joint that hinges your jaw). Your dentist will know the right treatment for you when you discuss this issue at your appointment.

-Malocclusion: This problem is also called crooked teeth or an uneven bite, and it can apply unnatural pressure to the jaw, which results in pain. Typically, the best and most recommended way to treat crooked teeth and an uneven jaw is with orthodontic treatment. Braces, clear aligners, and other appliances can help you have the oral health you need and the relief you want.

If you think these are the causes of your jaw pain in Hermitage, Tennessee, please contact Brandon Burger, DDS at 615-889-8202 today and schedule an appointment.
